First of all I feel horrible for Karana because all of her family is dead. And she must have really loved her brother if she swam all that way to stay with him. A vocabulary word that someone might not know would be is stout. I am almost positive that it means strong or stiff. Another is headland. I don't know what that means though. O.K. I am done so happy blogging!!

Oops! I forgot to tell what I think headland means. I think it is a part of land where it was most popular or just the main part of land to them.

I feel bad for all the people who lost their family. The tribe must have been glad to know that the ship hadn't been the Aleuts. A vocabulary word that I found that I didn't know was forlorn, by reading the sentance I think it means upset or sad.

I also feel really bad about the people who lost their family but I especially feel really bad for Karana because she has lost her mom, dad, and now her brother. If I was Karana I would have already have cried out my eyes. A vocabulary word I don't really sure about is perish but i think it means to obey or pay back for something you did. Also how do you pronounce Tanyositlopai? I love Blogging!!!

I cannot believe all of Karana's family died in the first 9 chapters of the book.
Also, I had the same vocabulary word that Tracer had, stout. I have heard the word plenty of times before, and from the descriptions, I think that stout means something like stubby. I think a stout person means that they are sort of short and very sturdy. I don't know for certain, but maybe that is it. Does anybody else know, or at least have an idea of what stout means? I wonder why Marino, Josh, and Aaron haven't blogged on chapters 5-8 yet. Didn't anyone else notice that?
I wonder what will happen in the next couple chapters? Maybe the ship will come back, that was supposed to.Or maybe, the ship will forget about them.
Also, what country are the other Indians going to. Personally, I think they are going to America because that is what the"land of the free", and all those other nicknames America has.

She didn't lose her brother, she jumped off the ship and styed with her brother on the island, his new name is now Tanyositlopai the new cheif of Ghalas-at because he is the only boy on the island, i was going to pick Tanyositlopai as my vocab word but Taylor picked it and i left my book at home but i do think this name will stick to Ramo and Karana will call him that until the ship gets back, but i don't think it will i think that it will never come back to the island and Tanyositlopai and Karana will stay on the island until the Aluets come back because the Aluets came and the damage was done but i don't think that they are completly out of the book, i think Karana will see the MASSIVE red sails of the Aluet ship once more. I love blogging too!!!

I too feel devastated. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to loose my whole Family. That really must of been hard. To Taylor I do believe that perish means that to vanish,to die or to leave. Well any way I wonder, if Ghalas-at means anything or is just a name the indians made up for the name of their tribe. Well as Tracer and Jay said I too ponder on what stout means and I have come to belive by reading that passage several times that stout means strong or it or thick mabey even a certain type of rope people can make.Another word that I am surprised that nobody put "and if you know the anwser please blog and say so" the word shirkers on page 33. After reading the passage numbours times I still am not sure what this word means but I have decied to give it a shot. I belive that it might mean lazy and not getting the job done. Those are the ones that make the most sense to me because it kind of sounds like what we learned in Social studdies that captain John White well actully I'm not completely sure who the captain was but he said some thing like this "Who does'nt work Does'nt eat" Well I thought that was kind of like what Kimiki said. I will give a brief summary of what he said which was "now the Woman and the girls could'nt just stay home and do the cooking and all of that kind of stuff, now they will have to take care of the mens duties as well." Many Woman were upset about this or grumbeled. "Therre will be shirkers. These will be punished, for without the help all, all must perish." Which means all will die . As the captain said if you don't work you won't eat and then you will die.I Too LOVE BLOGING!

Two words I wasn't sure on were Mesa and Shirkers.
I think shirkers are sort of like fighters and I'm positive Mesa meens a canyon sort of place, but smaller.

One more vocabulary word i had was KELP i know alot of u probably know this word and i've seen it a millon times but i never knew what is really means, i think it is sort of like seaweed but i wasn't sure. i also have two more, gorged and abalone, i have no idea what gorged means but i think abalore is some type of food because why else would the dogs want it???

Another vocabulary word I had is gorged, I think it means to dig. Karana and her brother have to become very independent, to find food, to build a home and to protect each other from the wild dogs. I also can't beleive that Ramo thinks he can be the cheif of Ghalas-at. One more vocabulary word I have is befall. I think it means something bad.

I can't beileve what Karana is going through. I would be very sad if everybody in my family died, but my sister.

I wonder what Karana will do with out any help. Maybe this is where the dolphins come in but if they do come in to the story what would they do would they help her in some reason.

Kelp is a type of seaweed, or at least that's what Spongebob hints at.
