Chapters 13-16
Hi Bloggers. I would like you to be sure that you make two enteries for chapters 13-16. The first entry should discuss your thoughts on the section you read. Specifically talk about your reaction to Karana's new pet, his name and the signifcance of it and why you think he is so important to her. In the second blog I would like you to wait to make your entry until others have posted, then I would like you to respond and react to their thoughts on the chapters.

ReplyDeleteI am surprised that Karana took one of the wild dogs in as a pet and even more so when she named it. It also surprised me to think that her pet is the lead dog! Karana was aiming to kill that dog and that dog alone but she ended up wounding him brutally and taking him in later, and caring for him. The dog that led the attack and killing of her brother Ramo.

ReplyDeleteI was Right! she didn't kill all of the Wild Dogs. She even made the leader the one she promised to kill him as a pet with the name of Rontu.Well anywhere I'm glad Karana finaly has some company I think this is very important for her to have company so she can have some one to talk to and share her feelings with because all of us need some one to talk to and share are feelings with. I womder why she made him a pet? Mabey it was to hard to see an animal dieing like that? I know I couldn't Bare to see an animal dieing like that. If any of you think you know why Karana didn't kill tthe pack leader and decied to keep him as a pet please say so on your responding blog so I we can disscuss what we think the answer might be.

ReplyDeleteWhen karana was going to go and kill the leader of the pack, I was surprised that the leader ended up getting away.but then when she was going to kill him again I was hoping that she wouldn't because I felt sorry for him. I was glad that she took him home as a pet and took care of him because now she has someone with her. I think Rontu is a good name for the dog because his eyes are kind of like foxes eyes. when Karana hert her ankle I was wondering how she was able to do things but she did things ok.
Cassie
ReplyDeleteI think Karana didn't kill Rontu because she would probably be more upset and have to think about someone else that died and she also felt sorry for him too.

ReplyDeleteI KNEW IT!!! i knew that karana had a pet dog and i knew that it had to be wild because where on earth would she get a tamed one!? i am surprized that the dog she took in the leader. i had mixed feelings for the leader and now i noticed that in the begginging u want Karana to kill all the dogs and when she finally gets to the point where she is about to do it u want the dog to live. that is how Karana felt when she was about to kill Rontu with her second arrow but she simpley just couldn't do it. i no that this movie is unappropriate because of the villance, but in the movie Batamn The Dark Knight each ship wants to live, and the only way to do that is to blowup the other ship but when it comes time to blowup the other ship u just can't bare to do it. i'm glad that Karana finally has a friend weather he can talk or not, he listens and Karana is happy. i wonder what will happen to the rest of the pack???
Cassie
ReplyDeleteAaron said he was wondering what will happen to the rest of the pack. That reminds me of the mom and the babies that were in the cave, I wonder if those babies were the leaders babies?
Aaron
ReplyDeletei have no idea who's babies those are and i don't think it will be that important to the story, i think maybe the wild dogs will think Rontu is dead and elect a new leader. i also think that the wild dogs will atack again and Rontu will tell them to stop and if they don't like i think they won't he will deffend his new friend...

ReplyDeleteI agree with Both of the people that responed to my question I think that it was too much for Karana to kill the leader and make him die in such a painfull way plus I think she was getting lonely so she made him her pet and named him Rontu. I would like to hear about others responses about the question I asked in my first Blog.

ReplyDeleteA few of you commented that you were glad that Karana didn't kill the lead dog. A few chapters ago, many of you were mad at the lead dog and said that you would understand if Karana killed him because the pack had killed her brother. What did the other do to make you change your feelings towards the dog? Can you find specific evidence from the story to support your thinking?
Taylor
ReplyDeleteWow who would ever think that Karana's new pet is her enemy! The name Ronto means fox eyes I think that naming the dog Ronto is perfect for the dog's name because when Karana brought the dog to her home where ever the Karana went the dogs eyes followed her and so naming the dog Ronto which means fox eyes is perfect for the dog who followed his yellow eyes every where Karana went. I thought that when Karana was in the tunnel and Ronto was watching the devilfish I thought Ronto was going to jump out of the water and the devilfish was going to do someting bad to Ronto. I also thought that when the old bull came close to Karana I thought that the old bull was going to hurt Karana. Why did the old bull fight the small bull?

ReplyDeleteI cannot believe Karana let the leader of the Wild Dogs leader get away! I mean, seriously, what did the Wild Dogs ever do to help Karana? Oh wait, I know! NOTHING! Karana must be a very merciful person if she let that dog get away. I think in this chapter we really got a little bit more information on Karana's personality. She can be a very tough, and hard-nosed person, but she can also be a very kind, and merciful person. That is what's so unique about Karana, and her personality.
I wonder if the Blue Dolphins have anything else to do in the story, or if that was it? So far, it doesn't look like they've played tooo big a part in the story, but maybe they can still do something to change the story.
I also notice that this story is different because of it's plot. The only way to explain it is to say it seems like story plot has already ended. It seems like it ended after the Indian tribe left to go to wherever they were going. Now it is just like another book I have read called My Side of the Mountain, By Jean Craighead George. She is just using her survival skills to survive. I am almost positive that this is a clue that something is about to happen. Something really, really, big.
Also, I wonder if the Aleuts will come back to the island? I think if that were to happen, it would make a story plot appear. That is why this book is so unique. One little thing could change yhe whole entire story.
I still do not know how this book will end. I have asked this before, and I will ask it again, DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW THIS BOOK ENDS??!! ANYBODY??!! ANYBODY AT ALL??!! Please, somebody answer this question, and I will be happy.

ReplyDeleteSorry for breaking the rule but Mrs. Heilmann said in the assignment that you would write your thoughts and then wait until EVERYONE else had written too. Just saying.
Josh
ReplyDeleteI mean you're supposed to wait for everyone to blog before the second time. Again sorry, I had to blog a second and third time for the message to get threw.
Cassie
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning I wanted Karana to kill the dogs because it seemed like they were the bad ones in the story. But before karana shot the dog for the first time it said,He stood facing me, his front legs spread as if he were ready to spring, his yellow eyes narrowed to slits. The arrow struck him right in the chest. That was when I was hoping that she wouldn't shot him and I think I changed my mind about Rontu there was so much good details that it felt like I was Rontu standing right in front of Karana. The second time when Karana wen looking for him he could barely move, so I felt so sorry for hm that I wanted to go to Rontu and help him. I am glad Karana took care of him and she probably is too, because like a lot of you said she has someone to talk to and is not alone anymore. Rontu has really changed Karana's life because before she wanted to get off the island as fast as she could but now it doesn't matter.

ReplyDeletei agree with everybody that we all wanted Karana to kill the dog and now we don't want anybody to harm him at all, the author taught us that u can dislike your enemies but not all enemies are bad, u may hate someone and then in 5years u both could be best friends. i agree with jay how she needs to use her survival skills to live, but think about it, she had to use them even before the Aluets came, the dogs were still a threat if someone went into the forest alone, but the dogs are too smart to have came charging into the village gaurded with well trained men and wepons. the first time karana shot him, we all were so over joy that she killed the leader, but she didn't kill him, he got away and then we all wanted Karana to shoot him again, but when she found him, just laying there on the ground, we all thought Karana was a bad person, just fo ra brief second or two but we all thought that and we wanted the leader to live, that is when Karana's good side showed as she stood there holding the bow and arrows, unable to let go. im glad she didn't kill him or else she wouldn't have anyone to talk to (even though he dosn't understand half of what she is saying). if she did kill the leader, for one we would think Karana made a bad decion of killing him, but she would probably be free from the dogs for a number of days, but then would have to kill all of those, she would be the only beating heart on the island (except for the insects and sea elephants).
Taylor
ReplyDeleteI also think it was a bad idea for Karana to kill the pack leader now because I think that if she did kill him she would feel sorry I mean in the beginning we all wanted to kill the pack and the leader because they killed Ramo. But think if you were the dog once and you killed Ramo would you feel sorry or satisfied because you thought that Ramo was going to kill your pack or even you. If you were in the leaders shoes [or paws] would you have killed Ramo to save you and your pack? I also think that the mother and the pups could have been the leaders pups because in the school forest Mr. Nelson said that the leaders [alphas] were only supposed to mate? Or i could be totally wrong and out of the blue and heard it differently.

ReplyDeleteJay, nobody should tell you how the book ends because for one, they shouldn't know how it ends and for two, it would ruin the whole story, have you ever watched a movie with someone who already has seen the movie and they ruin the whole dang movie, that puts an end to watching the movie because you already know what is going to happen.
Aaron Schmidlkofer
ReplyDeletei don't think that the dog would be sorry because Ramo was in their territory, if he had stayed near the village, maybe he wouldn't have been killed!

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Karana's choice. I like to hunt and sometime you really want to kill it at first then when it's dead or hurt you feel horrible. I would have done the same thing if I were in her place And it makes me feel good that they became such good friends. She mentions that she didn't have the right herbs it reminded me of the book we had to read for colonial America. I was more nervous than I ever was reading a book when I thought she was going to kill the dog. I tend to read faster when something exciting is happening.

ReplyDeleteit is later and no one bloged. So I want to say that I think the language of people sounds weird and is hard to pronounce sometimes. what is the name of the tribe? the dog on the cover must be Ramo. I usually like animals more than people in stories. I am going to respond to what Aaron said sice no one bloged. I agree completely with Aaron because knowing the end of the book would ruin everything and its to good of a book to ruin it. And I udrerstand how surised Taylor is. Her pet WAS her enemy and now her friend.
I knew it that she wuz gonna keep the dog becuz i read the book and im readin it with my class. i would keep the dog 1.)cuz i luv dogs 2.) To keep him like a body guard and 3.)cuz hes cute.
ReplyDeleteBYE!!! :)
