Chapter 21-end

Dear Bloggers,
It is exciting to think that we have come to the end of our book. I am sure that your thoughts about the plot have changed quite a bit since your initial predictions. I would like you to focus on three things when you enter your final blog:

1.) Summarize the book. Be sure to include information about the characters, setting and problem/solution. Use the vocabulary words from the sort and prediction that you did at the introduction of the book.

2.) How do you feel about the climax and the ending of the book?

3.) What are your thoughts on your blogging experience. What would you change, what did you like? Would you like to blog again for the next book? Please be honest, it will help make all of our blogging experiences better!

On an island, in the pacific, shaped like a fish lived Indians who were peacefully living on the beautiful Island of the Blue Dolphins Karana and her tribe live. One warm day on the windy cliffs the Aleut Russians come and make a peace treaty with the Indians so they can hunt the otter on the Island and Karana's father, the chief of her tribe, let them camp on the island as long as they gave the Indians a share of their prophets. The Russians left at the end of that season but without giving their share. Before they got on their ship their was a short battle in which Karana's father was killed fighting. A new chief was appointed and he left for a new place. After a bit of waiting a different ship came that was going to take the Indians to America. Karana gets boarded but she sees her brother Ramo was left behind so she jumped off of the ship to her brother. The ship sailed away not coming back for them. They live together and work hard until one day where Ramo is killed by Wild Dogs, her new enemy. Karana lives on, still grieving for her brother, and becomes weary about the dogs. She kills some of them but in a fight she gravely injures the leader of the dog pack, which after she takes in as a pet. She heals the dog and names him Rontu. They soon find a cave and begin to live in it. Karana soon meets Tutok, a Aleut woman and they become friends. After Tutok leaves Karana moves out of the caves and finds an injured otter and names it Mon-a-nee which means Little Boy with Large Eyes. She cares for him for a while but one day he is gone. Later Karana sees Mon-a-nee again but he has pups with him so Karana knows that Mon-a-nee should actually Won-a-nee because that means Little Girl with Large Eyes. Then it happened. Rontu dies and Karana is devastated. A little while later Karana meets what she thinks is Rontu's son, so she names it Rontu-Aru which means Rontu's son. A while after there is an earthquake and it destroys all of her canoes and blows away all the abalones she had stored. Then a white mans ship came and Karana goes with them, along with Rontu-Aru away from the Island.

I think the climax was when Rontu died because that was when everything changed. Before then most of the book Rontu was right beside Karana and once he died it all changed.

I personally loved blogging because we could discuss books without actually talking or being in the same room and also practicing typing. I would love to blog again because it is a good opportunity.

Summary Paragraph: On a beautiful island shaped like a fish, a boat with red sails approached. It contained Russians called the Aleuts, who wished to hunt for otters, and agreed to give the Indians half of the skins. Just before they set sail, they began to kill the Indians. Then, the Russins left. When they had been gone for quite a while, the Indians left to go to a special country. Karana and her brother, Ramo, were accidently left behind. Ramo was killed by the wild dogs that live on the island. Karana was forced to survive on the island. Once, she tried to escape from the island in a canoe, but the canoe got a leak, and she had to turn around, and come back. Karana starts to kill the Wild Dogs when they come close to her. When she finally gets a chance to kill there leader, she cannot do it. She took him home, and healed his wounds. She always called him, "Dog", but when he was tamed, and they became friends, she named him Rontu. Her and Rontu have many happy times together, but soon the Aleuts come back. She must pack up her things, and move away. After they hunt for a week or so, they leave the island. The next summer, Rontu dies. Karana then sees Rontu's son in the Wild Dog pack. She catches him, and tames him. Then, a ship with white men came to take her away.

#2: I think the climax of the book was when Rontu died as well. Also, I think this book had a cool ending. It leaves you when the story isn't over. Karana didn't die did she? I don't think so.

#3: I really, really liked blogging for a couple of reasons: #1. It gave us all a chance to do something new, that we have never done before.
#2. It was a way for us to talk about the book outside of Guided Reading, and we could have more fun, doing it this way.
#3. Everyone had fun doing the blog, and that's what it's about. Making ways to have fun, while doing an educational activity.
Sadly, I am done blogging, but I hope we'll get to do it for the next book. BYE-BYE!

my summary on the book is like this.
one time on a beutiful island a girl named Karana lived with her indian tribe. they lived in peace until one day a ship landed on their island. Their leader showed no fear but ended up being killed. they took all the otter skins that they killed and left. then the tribe left in search of better life. Well Karana's brother got left behind and she dove in after him. While they are living on the island a pack of wild dogs killed her brother and she always swore she would kill all of them. the one she wanted to kill the most was the leader. one time she got the chance and peirced his chest. she couldn't find him so she looked the next day. she found him wounded but could not find the courage to kill him. Instead she saved his life and he stayed her pet for a long time. she ended up making alot more pets. Finally a ship takes her from the island.

I think the climax was when the earthquake and the waves were ruining everything. It could have been rontu dieing to. I would not do the bloging again because it was alot for me to do. I still liked the experience.I liked the ending but I don't know why. I think it was because she got to keep Rontu-aru and her birds. I have been meaning to ask this but I keep forgeting, What is a abalone. well I am done.

My summary: there was a girl named Karana living with her family on a island called The Island Of the Blue Dolphins in a spot called Ghalas-at Then a ship came with red sails and they were Russians called Aleuts. The Aleuts wanted to kill otter. They made a deal with the Indians on the island to give them half of the skins and some jewels. When the Aleuts started to leave they gave us a chest of jewels and took all of the otter skin. Everyone started fighting. The fight was over and the Aleuts killed some of the Indians and the Indians killed some of the Aleuts. Karana lost some of her family like her father the king of the island but Karana didn't loose her brother Ramo or her sister Ulape and all of the girls on the had to do the work that the men had to do and the their jobs too so it was a lot of work.Once they had a new king he set of towards another island that the people at Ghalas-at can go to a safer place and to start somewhere else for a change.
One day on the island the people saw a ship coming toward them. They thought it was the Aleuts but this ship had white sails so it wasn't the Aleuts. The people on the ship wanted to take the people on Ghalas-at because the king who went off to look for the island saw them on the ocean and told the people in the ship to get the people from Ghalas-at and bring them to the new island. So everyone was in the ship ready to go but then Karana saw that her brother was off the ship and went to go get his spear the ship started to leave and Karana jumped off to go by her brother. They were at the island just the two of them and Ramo went to go look at the canoes. Later Karana found him lieing on the ground and the wild dogs around him. The wild dogs had killed Ramo. So Karana was there on the island by herself she had to do everything by herself like hunt, cook, and make everything that she needed. She also made a couple of friends on the way like Ronto the Wild dog pack leader and some birds.
One day a ship came it was the Aleuts and she met this girl that was apart of the Aleuts. They became freinds until she had to leave because the start of winter came and the Aleuts were done hunting for otter. A couple of years later another ship came it was not like the other ships that Karana saw before. The people who came were people to take to the new island where she thought her family would have been until they told her that the ship that her family was on sunk and they didn't make it to the island. So she took her animal friends with her and went away with the people on the ship.

I think the climax was when Ronto died because that's when Karana didn't really do anything because it wasn't the same when Ronto was right beside her. I think the ending was good because she got to start a new life but the part that is a little sad was that when she left the island she had to leave all of her memories behind.

I do like blogging because we seem to get to say everything we want to say with out interrupting someone and no one is staring at you so you tend to say more. I also like blogging because we learn to type a lot better and faster.

My sumary: A long time ago there was a girl named Karana who lived with her tribe called the Ghalas-st. They lived in peace until the Aluets also know as Russians who came in search of the beautifull glossy otter coats. Karana's father Chief Chowig wanted to have some of the otters for his Indian tribe, that the Aluets had hunted for other wise they would'nt let the Aluets hunt at their Island shaped like a fish called Island Of The Blue Dolphins. But the Aluets were about to leave with out giving them a fair share of the otters so the tribe attacked and many died and now the Aluets were there enemies. Now half of the tribe's Men were dead. The Aluets escaped. Karana's Father had died in that battle. Later a new chief was made but later he went to the land of the East. He sailed there alone. Later a ship came from the East on the Pacific to bring all of the Indians to the land of the East.Ramo did not get on the ship and she went onto the Island for Ramon while the ship left behind Karana and Ramon . There Karana and Ramon started to live. Later the wild dogs killed Ramon. She promised that she would kill the dogs one day. Finaly she started to make wepons and eventuly a house. At first she started to kill the dogs but then gave in and kept the leader dog as her pet which eventuly she named him Rontu. After time passed she made another house and got 2 birds for more pets. AS time passed the Aluets came back and she became friends with an Aluet girl named Tutok. After awhile the Aluets left. As more seasons passed Rontu died. She got another a dog named Rontu-Aru which means son of Rontu. Later an earth quake happended and she clung to the cliffs while the wind, rain and water swept over her. A while later another earth quake happened but this time she was just on land. Eventruly the White men's ship came after 18 years to take Karana and Rontu-Aru home.

I was pretty confused on where the climax was in this book but I think it might be either when Rontu dies or when the earth quake happens or mabey even when the White men returned to take Karana home. I still am confused on how completly the dolphins are so much a big part of a story that you would name the title " Island of the Blue Dolphins" But other wise I thought this was a very touching book with a lot of lessons that could be learned from this book. So I think the ending and of cousre the whole book was GOOD!

AWESOME! I think this is a Great experince to share our thoughts with each other and react to others as well. I think this helps us think better because when you read other Peoples blogs it makes you want to be think about the same topic or think deeper thoughts. This is a lot more enjoyable then writing it on a piece of paper. It also helps us improve on our typing skills, I know I have. I think we should do this for our next book. P.S. I LOVE BLOGING!

This book started on a peacful island called the island of the blue dolphins which the people of Ghalas-at lived with their leader Chief Chowig. Karana, a mature girl has her brother Ramo, her sister Ulape, and her father, Chowig. On day a ship of Spanish people known as Aluets. They wanted to trade in a sort of way, they wanted to hunt otters on Chief Chowig's teriitory so they would Chowig them jewelery and other items. On the island everybody has two name, the one that everybody knows and a secret name that only a few people knew. Chowig told the Aluet's leader (Captian Orlav) his real name, sending a message through out his village that they could trust him. That was a mistake the Aluets attacked and killed alot of the men, including Cheif Chowig. later on a white people ship came and everybody had to hurry if they wanted to get to a better place and not stranded on an island, Ramo was the only one who didn't make it and then Karana jumped off the ship and stayed with her brother. A while later, Ramo gets killed by a pack of wild dogs, Karana is mad and goes agianst the rules of the village (women can't make wepeons)and made a spear and a bow and five arrows, she then tries to avenge Ramo and goes to the wild dog's cave and puts fire in there forcing the dogs to come out because of the smoke, she then shot the leader, which was her objective, but he got away. later on she finds the wounded dog lying down and equipted herself but found it very hard to kill the dog so she made it her pet and named him Rontu. After a few years she finds some baby birds and keeps them who later on have eggs and more birds. She agreed to kill animals only for emergancy, she would no longer kill cormounts for their pretty feathers or otter for their fine fur. Another day Rontu just walks and wants to be let out side so Karana lets him, he dons'nt return so Karana searches for him only to find him laying down in a cave, she could not carry him back for night had fallen upon them, so she carries him back in the mourning when he dies. She burries him. She sees the pack of dogs moving along and sees Rontu's son and captures him, and names him Rontu-Aru. On day a ship apears on the horizon and it couldn't be the Aluets for it had no red sails, nor the white people because she had memorized what that looked like, they came to hunt otter but the otters hid so they took Karana to her new home, after being stranded for 18years, she took her birds and Rontu-Aru.

I think the climax was when Rontu died because all of a sudden she loses interest I life but soon finds Rontu-Aru and loves him, the solution was when the ship arrived because when I read that and saw how many pages were left i knew this was the end and that they were taking her home. This book was my first book in this group as it was for Jay and i think Mrs. Heilmann picked a very good book because this book has alot of simularities to other books.

I love bloging and honestly Mrs. Heilmann I wouldn't change anything i like how you give us our assingments on the blog and ask for spesific things from us. I deffinetly want to blog on the next book whatever it may be, this blogging experiance is a great way to get kids interested in reading (though we all are) because you just can't wait to see what other people are going to say!!!

Summary:Once there was a girl named Karana who lived was part of the Indian tribe that lived on an island called Island of the Blue Dolphins, which was shaped like a fish. One day there was a ship that was coming to there island, it was their enemies the Aluet Russians. They came during spring to hunt for otters, the aluets made a deal that they had to pay for all the otter that a they killed.when the Aluets were done hunting for otter, the Indians didn't think what they got was enough. So a fight began. Lots of the Indians died that day. the Indian tribe decided that they had to go somewhere else to live. So the new chief traveled to an island where the tribe would live. One day a ship arrived on the island and the Indians thought they were the Aluets so they hid. But it was the ship that came for them to take them to the new island.Everybody gathered most of their things and got on the ship. Karana's brother Ramo forgot his spear and went to go get it. When he came back the ship was leaving, so Karana jumped off the boat to be with Ramo. they knew another ship would come for them. they lived by themselves until one day ramo went to go and get a canoe, when Karana went to look for him she found him surrounded by wild dogs, Ramo was dead. Karana knew that she couldn't live in the village. so she went to look for a new spot and started to build a new home. She also built a canoe so she could sail away to the island. Unfortunately she didn't make it and turned back. Many years past and the ship still didn't come for her. Karaana started a new life. She was making weapons so she could kill the wild dogs that killed her brother. One day Karana set out to kill the wild dogs, she started a fire so the dogs would come out.She shot three dogs including the leader. Karana turned around for a few seconds and the lead dog was gone. She went searching for him and found him laying down almost dead. Karana tried to shot him but couldn't instead she took him to her house took good care of him and gave him the name of Rontu. Rontu became her friend, they did everything together. Many years later she kept some birds as pets too. Years later the aluets came again but she hid from them. A girl Aluet became friends with her. A few months later Rontu died. In spring she saw a wild dog that looked like Rontu. So it must have been one of his kids. She took the dog home and took care of it just like Rontu. Karana named him Rontu-Aru. they also became best friends. Not long after a ship came and it was not the Aluets but it was the white men who were here to get her. Karana was so excited to soon get to meet her only family she had left, her sister Ulape. The white men told her that the ship had sunk and none survived. Karana was sad. she got on the ship with her pets Rontu-aru and her two birds.

I also think that the climax was when Rontu died because everything started to go down and it seemed like that the story was going to end soon. I too like Taylor think that it was sad when Rontu died and had to leave all of her memories behind but it was a fresh start for Karana.

I really injoyed blogging because it was something different and I can't wait to blog again. I also love blogging because you can talk to other peoople and get to know what everyone is thinking about the book.
